Inspired by Lamont Carey's nationally recognized poem I Can't Read, this experience challenges students to think differently about literacy, education, identity, and their own potential.
Lamont combines spoken word, storytelling, writing, and interactive activities to create an environment where students can explore their experiences, find their voice, and recognize the power of their story.

Drawing from Lamont Carey's experience as a former Director of the Mayor's Office on Returning Citizens Affairs, his work with communities, and his books Predator or Prey and Laws of the Street, this experience explores the choices, circumstances, and opportunities that shape people's lives.
Rather than simply telling young people what not to do, Lamont creates an interactive conversation about survival, consequences, responsibility, identity, violence, reentry, and the possibility of choosing a different path.
